While the the northern hemisphere prepares for hibernation in scarves and roll-necks, summer has officially hit the east coast of Australia – just in time for a wardrobe refresh. But where to head? Well, James Street in Fortitude Valley is officially Brisbane’s style central. But although you’ll find big-hitting Aussie labels like Aesop and Sass and Bide, the concept store game is the real draw: independent, family-owned boutiques that started small and have now built up a strong international following like Camargue and Calexico. “James Street itself is like a catwalk,” says stylist and Brisbane local Leticia Gaskell. “There’s a vibe that’s like no other in town, especially with new hotel The Calile on the block – you dress up to come shopping here.” The vibe? Sun-bleached, light-flooded brunch spots trailing with greenery. Oh, and don’t miss the best Middle-Eastern fine-dining spot in the city, Gerard’s at number 14.
