The VIP experience for football fans has come on a touch since Manchester United’s then-captain Roy Keane railed against the “prawn sandwich brigade” in 2000 – custom catering and vintage cuvées are more the style now. As the English Premier League restarts this month, Manchester City is upping the stadium-experience ante further with the opening of The Tunnel Club, a new hospitality suite at the Etihad Stadium, which the club’s COO, Omar Berrada, says will be the most immersive match-day ticket anywhere in the world.
“The space has been built around a new players’ tunnel which is made of glass, so guests can watch the players line up in the tunnel before they go out on the pitch, as well as watch as they speak to the media post-match,” he says. Even better, The Tunnel Club is open to everyone, even visiting, non-Manchester City fans. “It’s kind of like a backstage pass – ultimately, we’re offering a whole new level of access to the players and manager. All from the comfort of the best seats in the house.”
